From Author's Desk: August News and Updates

The Shadow Paradox | Urban Fantasy

Today, I wanted to give you the mid-month update to let you know what I’m up to and what’s new in the Fire Salamander World.

What am I currently working on?

Currently, I am writing the fourth book of The Shadow Enforcer series. I am close to the finish line. I can almost see it. It’s within reach. At almost 100K words, I am facing the final battle and the conclusion of the story, which is the most important part of the book. We all want to have a satisfying conclusion with all questions answered and a nice opening into the next book of the series. So, it’s important to do it right.

In case you were wondering where the 4th book is going to take Damian and Cole, here are just a few random facts about it:

FACT 1: Well, maybe this fact is not so random, since every story that is set in the Fire Salamander World starts with a real historical event or the retelling of a legend. This book is not an exception. The story starts in the Fall of 879 A.D., in Ladoga, Russia. FACT 2: There is a new player in town, and he surrounds himself with so many secrets, lies, and mystery that no one can guess what he really is. Is he good or evil? You'll have to wait until I finish the story to find out. FACT 3: As always, Damian and Cole are surrounded by a web of mysteries, riddles and duplicity, but this time the magical mayhem starts with something as trivial as a simple theft of an object that has no magical properties. Or at least, that is what it appears to be...

Ask The Author

Question: Tell us about your first published book? What was the journey like?

Answer: Ellen, thank you for sending this question. My first published book was The Burns Fire. Looking back, the journey seems like some crazy roller coaster of thoughts and events, fears and excitement, self-doubt and determination. The main character, Zane Burns a.k.a. Gunz, was born long before The Burns Fire was even in the plans, but he was my love from the first word. So, as soon as I had the opportunity, I started my journey, building the world of the Fire Salamander, which had become a magical universe for both of my series -- The Shadow Enforcer and The Fire Salamander Chronicles. It took me a few months to publish my first book. Not because it wasn't ready, but because I wasn't sure I should. Without the great support from my family and my friends (and not so gentle push), I would have never published it.

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to email me. I’ll be happy to answer your questions in my next Author update.

What am I reading?

I can’t say I have a lot of time to read, so usually when I pick up a new book, it takes me quite some time to finish reading it. Not because a book is not good, but because between writing, editing, and other activities, I barely have any time to read. Currently, I am reading Hounded by Kevin Hearne and I love it. Urban Fantasy is one of my favorite genres. I love writing it just as much as I love reading books in this genre, and if they have elements of mythology, it makes it even better (at least in my humble opinion).

What am I doing?

I don’t know if I ever mentioned this, but I love doing anything creative, and that includes not only writing but also art and music.

A few months ago, my son started a big project. He decided to paint a mural on the door of his bedroom. Something that started as a simple oil painting on a door, soon turned into a much larger idea of painting the walls leading to his room in the same style. So, holding my brushes and mixing pad, I am facing the spacious, perfectly blue wall-space of a hallway… Wish me luck. 😉
